Getting back into things

I have officially finished editing all of my photos from my sisters wedding! I will be uploading some here soon with a little blurb about how the whole day went.

As of right now, I’ve not been feeling as swell as I’d like – lots of digestion issues. So to help myself feel better, the hubby and I went on an hour long walk at the local conservation area yesterday.

We saw some cottages and trailers in the camping area and many dogs too (which brightened my spirits). Down by the lake there were some fun footprints in the went sand:

I’m thinking its a raccoon or something.

On our way back home, we stopped at the recycling to pick up some firewood and another stop at the grocery store for dinner things. I nabbed some bran, pumpkin purée, and whole wheat flour for baking too. Unfortunately the rest of my day wasn’t to be used for anything but lazing on the couch being in stupid amounts of pain. Luckily this morning I was feeling a touch better and managed to eat breakfast and a snack. I finished editing all of the photos during breakfast and uploaded the video files to begin to edit those too.

Noon rolled around and our neighbour needed to borrow our immersion blender for his butternut squash soup. This prompted the hubby and I to head to the kitchen and tidy up a bit before I could start my baking adventure. I found this awesome recipe on Pinterest for Pumpkin Spice Bran Muffins (I’ll link below!) and immediately got to work doubling the batch. I used brown sugar instead of regular granulated sugar (just because I didn’t have white sugar) and gasp! Olive oil instead of canola because I didn’t want to melt down coconut oil and have it go all chunky when it hit the cold eggs. Worked out well enough and now I’m the happy owner of 24  20 P-S Bran Muffins. Our neighbour brought back the blender and a mug of fresh soup so we handed over 4 fresh from the oven muffins for him and his family.

I think shortly I will head out back to mow the lawn and hill . Maybe after that I’ll investigate some chilli recipes for the crock pot.

Keep checking back for photos and video from my sister’s  amazing wedding. And hopefully some more baking/ cooking adventures.

The Beat Goes On!

Hey there darlings,

Just a quick update on the excitement of the last few days. On Tuesday evening the hubby, Kendra, & I had a fantastic run. We really pushed it and went further without stopping than we had done in a while. Kendra and I were super thrilled about that. I’m sure it was partly because the weather had cooled off quite a bit, so it was a lot easier to breathe.

Late on Tuesday night we drove off to Toronto to spend the night at the in laws. We got there stupid late (almost 1am) and were awake at 730am on Wednesday to drive into the city proper for my day of appointments. Thankfully, even with the morning traffic, we made good time and I had my first ECG just in time to register for Echo up on the third floor.

After echo we had lunch at Druxy’s – it’s been tradition since my first trip to Toronto General. Yummy corned beef on rye with mustard and a pickle. We went back upstairs to meet with my electrophysiology doc to catch up with him since having my pacemaker put in back in May. He was happy to hear about how well I’m feeling and that I’m back to my regular activities considering the complications I had post surgery.

Once we finished our morning appointments, we had just under two hours to walk down to Queen st West to the store that I get my hair dye at. We hoofed it down there quick fast and boy was I pooped! But we made excellent time which meant that I could do a few stops on the way back. One stop was to a patisserie for some traditional French macarons…

salted caramel, 2x earl grey, 2x lemon poppyseed, chai latté

The patisserie kindly refilled my water bottle with nice chilly water for our stroll back to the hospital. We also stopped at the NYX store on Queen St W so I could pick up the matte liquid lipstick (“softspoken”) that I plan on wearing at my sisters wedding.

After our adventures outside of the hospital, we trudged up to the fifth floor for my ECG and consult/ follow up with my cardiologist. It’s always a treat catching up as I only see her once per year. Pretty much everything checks out in comparison to last years echo and egg, minus the addition of some wires, so that’s pretty awesome. I really can’t complain.

Once we were all finished with appointments we grabbed some Starbucks for the road and made the long trip back home during rush hour. Normally it would take us an hour and forty five minutes to get home, but with the traffic it was more like three to four hours. Apparently I fell asleep for a hour.

Last night was my sisters wedding rehearsal. It went very well and the dinner after was delicious. I didn’t take too many photos, but the few I did take I plan on editing when I edit photos from the big day…which is tomorrow!

Until then,

Hard to Give Up

Sorry for the mini hiatus – always busy and not always in the mood for computer time.

Last weekend was 3 days long thanks to our holiday Monday. We ran errands, got caught up on laundry (are you ever really caught up?), picked up some things for Hallowe’en (which you will see in a future post!!), and lazed around.

The hubby cooked down a ton of tomatoes from our garden & we now have oodles of tomato sauce. I mowed the back lawn/hill to pretty up the yard, which also doubles as a wicked workout. On both Saturday and Sunday evenings we had our amazing neighbours over to enjoy the fire pit in the backyard. The first night we roasted marshmallows and had s’mores, the second night we just enjoyed the warmth and company.

The workweek was also a day shorter thanks to the holiday… But short work weeks always feel longer. I have no idea why this is, but the week just seemed to drag on. Perhaps because I haven’t been feeling as great and was extra tired from my fitness adventures:

  • The hubby and I ran on Monday
  • We ran again (same route) on Tuesday with our friend Kendra
  • Wednesday I did legs at the gym & finished wth a power walk
  • Thursday was an hour of yoga

Needless to say, Friday was a day off.

Saturday we celebrated my father in laws 74th birthday! We helped tidy up the house, set the table, & chop veggies for salad and sides. The food was amazing and the company was swell too. Dessert was outta this world, but made me a touch apprehensive – I have been having a lot of stomach issues again lately (last 3 weeks maybe) and I think I’ve narrowed down the culprit to dairy. Very small amounts seem to be okay, and non-lactose milk is a safe option at this point, but guys… I CANT HAVE CHEESE! or at least not an enjoyable amount. And cheese was really the only dairy thing I ate. I love Brie, Camembert, Swiss… Pretty much any kind of cheese.

To top it off we wine to this amazing artisan cheese shop in Norwich county called “Gunns Hill Artisan Cheese” to pick up some cheese as a gift for the birthday boy. They had samples! Not gonna lie, I risked it and tried the wine soaked cheese and a fresh cheese curd. 5000% worth the risk.

I’m hoping if I reintroduce pro/prebiotics to my arsenal that I’ll be able to digest cheese and dairy happily again, but I have a feeling it’s going to go the way of avocado and peanut butter. And most beans.

On a happier note, we got home before noon today and I had an amazing nap. I think once I wake up a bit more I’ll continue working on my newest crochet blanket. Perhaps, once I’ve gotten a few more rows completed, I’ll post an update. This coming week will be full of adventures too, so keep your eyes peeled for:

  1. Hospital updates
  2. Rehearsal & dinner for sisters wedding
  3. The big day !!

This last week has been quite the adventure – very busy, but with all great lovely things. I was eager to begin the work week to really get the ball rolling because I had my first week-day off since coming back from ‘modified duty’ post surgery. Needless to say (but i’m obviously saying it anyways) I was PUMPED for my day off.

…but I had to get there first…
